DYISH holds its first-ever Theory of Knowledge (TOK) exhibition

DYISH’s first IBDP cohort shared their TOK exhibitions with fellow students, the IBDP class of 2024, and the IB Department teachers on Jun 20, 2022.

TOK is one of the core courses in the Diploma Program along with Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) and Extended Essay (EE). It aims to develop critical thinking skills by engaging students in an interdisciplinary discussion focused on “how do we know?”. This course also zeroes in on second-order questions whose answers are contestable and should be supported with first-order or real-world examples and events. In addition, as this subject explores how knowledge is produced, it also reflects a significant part of life – that some things in life don’t have a single correct answer, knowledge may change over time, and multiple varying perspectives can be equally right.

As one of the course assessments, the TOK exhibition requires students to look for objects, either physical or digital, to show how TOK manifests in the world around us. As outlined in the course guide, students have to choose 1 of the 35 prompts (knowledge questions) provided and answer it ‘indirectly’ using 3 specific objects in a form of a commentary. This assessment accounts for 33% of the course mark.
